Fill and Empty control in Seafood Processing Tank
Factory trawler ships process many products at sea, amongst the food production made at sea is surimi. When producing surimi, the fish fillets are mixed in a large tank with distilled water and then pumped into forms that are frozen. The frozen blocks are then processed further and sold as imitation crab, scallops, etc
Complicated Working Place for Level Measurement Instrumentation
The processing operator needs trustworthy level measurement to know how much water to add to the tank, and when to stop adding the fish fillets. When a batch is finished and is pumped out of the tank, there needs to be a low level shut down to stop the pump, also here the low-level measurement needs to be delivered with precision. The harsh conditions on a trawler, salt water wash downs, and the heavy slurry being measured requires robust level measuring instruments. Mechanical devices such as floats or tilt switches would not survive these extreme conditions due to corrosion and coating.
On a production facility onboard a trawler these instruments are crucial regarding having a safe working environment when the trawler is days away from safe harbor.Providing Safe Working Environment and Budget Friendly Level Measurement
AMETEK Drexelbrook solved the issue on numerous trawlers by installing three RF point level sensors on each tank. The sensors are installed close to the tank wall so as not to interfere with the mixer.
One sensor indicates when to stop adding distilled water; the second is used to indicate when to stop adding fillets. The third sensor is used as a low level to shut off the pump when the tank is empty.
The Cote-Shield circuitry allows the switch to operate properly even when heavily coated with fish slurry. The sensor housings are coated with a corrosion resistant plastic coating to help them survive in the harsh, salt-water environment.
Benefits
* Batch measurement helps ensure product consistency.
* Process is more efficient when the levels are completely in control.
* No routine maintenance required of the point-level sensors due the cote-shield technology and proven RF Admittance.
* No moving parts to wear out or hang up, providing longevity and level measurement security.
* Budget means a lot these days, longevity and level measurement quality is securing the best deal budget-wise when calculating life-time return-of-investment
